ברגע ששמעתי איך מת מֶק'ארה, הייתי צריך לקום ספר מאוייר ייחודי שמאפשר מפגש ראשון ושונה עם נושא השואה. הספר מספר את סיפורו של ילד כוכב, שנאלץ להסתתר מפני ציידי כוכבים שמבקשים ללכוד אותו ואת הכוכבים האחרים.
הטקסט עצמו לא מזכיר כלל את השואה ו/או את מלחמת העולם השנייה. כל הקישורים ההיסטוריים נעשים בעזרת סמלים שמופיעים באיורים (טלאי צהוב, צלב קרס, רכבות, חיילים וכו´).
הספר החשוב הזה מאפשר לדון בנושא השואה ברמות שונות ומשמש ככלי עזר מצוין להורים ולאנשי חינוך המבקשים לחשוף את הילדים לנושא מבלי להציף אותם מיד בנתונים קשים לתפישה.
בזכות המבנה הייחודי של הספר, ניתן לשוחח עם ילדים צעירים (שלא מכירים את הסמלים המופיעים באיורים) על שנאת זרים ועל רדיפת מיעוטים כהכנה לנושא השואה ורק בשלב מאוחר יותר לחשוף אותם לחוויה הקשה שעבר העם היהודי. ילדים גדולים יותר, שכבר מכירים את הנושא ואת הסמלים, יוכלו לנהל דיון על החוויה של האדם הבודד בתוך הזוועה.
