Lee Laa Lou: Our Story
Where It All Began
Lee Laa Lou started with a father’s desire to preserve something deeply personal: his family's connection to language, culture, and heritage. In 2020, as I watched my daughter grow, I felt a growing need to help her build a strong bond with her Jewish and Israeli roots. I wanted her to experience Hebrew not just as a language to learn, but as a living bridge to her identity — full of joy, depth, and meaning.
At the time, I was working at the Kochitzky Centre for Jewish Education. One day, I saw a colleague carrying a sheet of Hebrew letter stickers. When I asked where she had found them, she told me she had brought them from Israel because she couldn’t find anything suitable in North America. That moment was eye-opening. How could it be that in such a resource-rich continent, there were no high-quality, engaging tools to teach Hebrew to children?
That conversation launched me into two years of research and exploration. I spoke with educators, evaluated existing materials, and began designing what I couldn’t find — tools that made learning Hebrew playful, modern, and beautiful. The result was Lee Laa Lou.
Our First Product: A New Kind of Sticker
Our first product line was a series of educational sticker sheets — each thoughtfully designed to help children (and adults) connect with the Hebrew language in a fun, accessible way. The line included:
- Hebrew Letters (in both print and cursive)
- Hebrew Numbers
- Shabbat-themed stickers
- Encouragement stickers to support learning and growth
Each sticker featured Hebrew and English words, transliterations, and custom illustrations — blending language learning with creative expression and fine motor skill development. These quickly became favorites among teachers, parents, and kids alike.
What’s in a Name?
The name Lee Laa Lou came from a spontaneous moment with our daughter. At just one year old, she would gleefully mumble “Lee Laa, Lee Laa…” around the house. That chant stuck with us. When naming the business, I added Lou — a nod to our family name, Louis — and the brand was born.
What started as toddler babble became a name filled with meaning: playful, heartfelt, and family-rooted. It now represents everything we stand for — joy, creativity, tradition, and connection.
