Nobody Is Coming to Clean the Floor: What Solo Entrepreneurship Taught Me About Action

When I launched Lee Laa Lou in 2020 after my daughter Mia was born, it was the middle of COVID. Everyone was working remotely, and as offices started opening back up, as an entrepenure, I stayed at my home desk. Week after week, my routine settled into a loop: taking care of the house, managing home projects, raising the kids, cooking dinners, making lunches, planning weekends, volunteering, and squeezing in work. My personal and family life was full, but in business, I was completely isolated.  Without outside professional input, casual brainstorms, or new environments, I was feeling disorganized, unmotivated, and uninspired.

These are the same feelings I get when I look at a piece of clothing on the floor or a toy everyone keeps stepping over, hoping that somehow it will magically pick itself up. But it won't. Not until you bend down, grab it, and put it away. Business works the exact same way, if you don't grab the opportunity and just do the work, it won't get done, and you stay stuck in that stagnant loop. I knew something had to change to reignite the stimulation I needed for motivation, and to take the deliberate action required to keep moving the company forward.

Then, one morning, a friend invited me out to a local coffee shop. When I sat down, I was introduced to a group of entrepreneurs who had turned the space into their morning office. Seeing them work and having real, casual conversations with people who shared that same daily grind instantly reignited something in me. It was a shared space for like-minded individuals to connect, talk, and share ideas. Just being in that environment provided the exact stimulation I was missing. It made me realize that waiting for motivation to hit at my desk was like waiting for a toy on the floor to pick itself up.

Nobody is coming to pick up the toy, and nobody is going to build your mission for you. If you’re feeling stuck at your desk today, close the laptop, step out the front door, and take your work into the world. Companies and organizations aren't built in quiet rooms—they’re built out in the community. For some, it’s a coffee shop table; for others, it’s a virtual podcast or a local event.

Each day takes just one deliberate action, and over time, that momentum naturally grows. Whatever it is for you: what is the one thing you’re picking up and finishing today?
